| Historic districts, as intricate tapestries of cultural and social arteries, play a pivotal role in preserving the identity and history of nations. Shiraz's historic district fabric, boasting a rich collection of historical and cultural monuments from various eras, embodies the continuity of cultural life in this ecosystem. Through every epoch, the architectural and urban fabric of Shiraz evolved, with key structures mosques, bazaars, schools, and mausoleums emerging as the central symbols of the city's identity. In the post-World War II period, a large number of historic urban fabrics worldwide underwent profound social and economic changes. These changes encompassed widespread migrations, economic pressures, rapid development, and the growth of the tourism industry, often leading to the destruction and fundamental alteration of the social and physical structures within historic areas. Shiraz also experienced similar impacts. This article examines the measures undertaken to revive these historic urban fabrics over the past two decades, assessing them against the backdrop of international and national strategic conservation and urban development documents. |
