This paper examines istorical sites and cultural heritage by emphasising the theory
of ‘manifestation’, particularly the ‘manifestation of the sacred’ or ‘hierophany’—a
concept introduced by Mircea Eliade for the study of myth and religion. The findings
reveal that existing theoretical frameworks and guidelines, especially those developed
by UNESCO, lack comprehensiveness. As a result, some of the most significant
capacities of these places have remained dormant and unutilised. Accordingly, the
present study aims to activate and dynamise the latent and unrealised potentials
of his torical and cultural monuments. To achieve this, the research introduces new
concepts and theoretical perspectives, including the ‘manifestation of the national’ and
the ‘manifestation of the urban’.
